Training for the VHF Short Range Certificate must be 10 hours in duration and you have to sit an examination by an independent SRC assessor. This is not the Instructor who delivered to you the training.

If you are a practical person who prefers the company and support of a professionally qualified instructor and the other learners then choose our classroom course.

Classroom Training: At Adventure Sunderland we use  practical hand-on instruction. We meet the minimum 10 hours tuition criteria by sending you a learning pack so you can carry out three hour's self learning before the course.

During the day you will work through a set syllabus and have lots of practice using VHF radios to enable you to use the radio with complete confidence.

Course Pack: we will mail you a course pack which will include the RYA VHF Radio Handbook, (G31) and pre-course learning which includes Phonetic Alphabet study sheet, specific rules study topics and Distress Message card for practise.

NB. Test and Licence application and fee: From the 1st February 2018, you must also pay for your exam and licence direct to the RYA . The fee is £60. Go to www.rya.org.uk/go/src. and look for the link to apply and pay. The application form will then be sent to you by the RYA as confirmation of payment. You need to print out the form, sign it and bring it along with a passport photo to the exam.
